1) Roll Call: Will contact QI Champions and ACQRs directly to inquire about participation status if

3) Announcements & Updates
a) PONV 05 Released! This measure is the new adult PONV prophylaxis measure reflective of the
latest PONV guidelines (2020). Please review your site data and after case review, let the
Coordinating Center know if additional changes are recommended. Will postpone including
PONV 05 on provider feedback emails for a couple of months to allow for this review. PONV 01
will not be retired for a couple of months so sites can compare scores between the new adult
prophylaxis measure and the existing. Plan to retire both PONV 01 and PONV 02 in April.

i) Reminder to Quality Champions and ACQRs that they will receive an automated email in
January and July as a reminder of site selected measures

i) Calendar invites have been sent to those individuals who perform data uploads to MPOG on
a monthly basis

5) Smoking VBR 2023: Michigan Sites Only
a) New Additional VBR focus area: Smoking Cessation
i) Measurement period: 12/1/2021-11/30/2022
ii) New additional reimbursement: 2% (on top of the potential 5%)
iii) New Measures (officially approved by BCBSM):
(1) Improve smoking status documentation within 30 days prior to surgery. Target: 70%
(2) Increase the proportion of smokers who receive treatment/cessation counseling. Target:
1%
iv) Additional communication from the Coordinating Center to be sent later this week to
Michigan Quality Champions and ACQRs.
6) TOC 01 Update
a) In November, TOC 01 was reviewed by the Quality Committee (led by Dr. Alex Bouwhuis,
Holland Hospital & Eric Davies, Henry Ford Allegiance)
i) Feedback from Measure Reviewers

continue the measure as is

i) Tim Harwood (Wake Forest): Recommends that the measure exclude outpatient cases and
other procedures that have not yet been studied.
(1) Nirav Shah (MPOG Quality Director): Great point! Is implementation different in the
outpatient setting compared to inpatient? Definitely something we should consider.

8) Precision Feedback Study- Zach Landis-Lewis, PhD (University of Michigan)
a) Evaluation and Improvement of Provider Feedback emails
b) Awarded an RO1 grant to identify the best way to engage providers in reviewing their
performance thus leading to improved outcomes

9) Delirium Project- Phil Vlisides, MD (University of Michigan)
a) New QI project to improve delirium screening in routine clinical setting
b) Three Phased Approach
i) Conduct surveys and focus groups with nursing colleagues to determine barriers to delirium
screening practices on hospital wards.
ii) Based on barriers identified, conduct a pilot implementation trial with the goal of improving
delirium screening frequency and accuracy.
iii) Collaborate with the Michigan Value Collaborative to determine the impact of delirium
detection on healthcare value and costs during hospitalization
c) Reach out to Phil Vlisides with any questions.
