Quality Committee Meeting Notes – Monday, January 24, 2022

missing. Other participants can review meeting minutes and contact the Coordinating Center if they

are missing from the attendance record.

a) PONV 05 Released! This measure is the new adult PONV prophylaxis measure reflective of the

Pediatric Subcommittee Chair

c) Provider Feedback Email Selection Notification

i) Reminder to Quality Champions and ACQRs that they will receive an automated email in

January and July as a reminder of site selected measures

ii) Opportunity to review and modify measure selection

iii) Last email was sent at the beginning of January

iv) Michigan sites: May want to add new P4P measures at this time

i) Calendar invites have been sent to those individuals who perform data uploads to MPOG on

a monthly basis

5) Smoking VBR 2023: Michigan Sites Only

a) New Additional VBR focus area: Smoking Cessation

i) Measurement period: 12/1/2021-11/30/2022

ii) New additional reimbursement: 2% (on top of the potential 5%)

iii) New Measures (officially approved by BCBSM):

(1) Improve smoking status documentation within 30 days prior to surgery. Target: 70%

(2) Increase the proportion of smokers who receive treatment/cessation counseling. Target:

ii) See slides with presentation from Dr. Bouwhuis regarding TOC 01 with recommendation to

continue the measure as is

iii) Zoom Recording available to hear full discussion

iv) Recommendations from reviewers:

(1) Alex Bouwhuis (Holland) recommends continuing the measure as is

(2) Eric Davies (Henry Ford Allegiance) recommends retiring the measure

v) Follow-up to that discussion:

(1) Reviewed measure 11/2022 (Drs. Davies and Bouwhuis)

(2) Discussed “modify” votes with quality champions - most were interested in better EHR

i) Continue measure as is

i) Tim Harwood (Wake Forest): Recommends that the measure exclude outpatient cases and

other procedures that have not yet been studied.

9) Delirium Project- Phil Vlisides, MD (University of Michigan)

a) New QI project to improve delirium screening in routine clinical setting

b) Three Phased Approach

i) Conduct surveys and focus groups with nursing colleagues to determine barriers to delirium
